Dublin Pizza Company: The takeaway of my dreams

I don't get Dominos. There is a lot of "bad food" that I totally get and that I would even shamelessly dig into - Burger King, crêpes au Nutella, M&Ms. But I don't get Dominos, or any of this kind of rubbish people dare calling pizza. Now don't get me wrong, I don't always make pizza from scratch (although I have a pretty damned good recipe that I might share with you someday) but when I buy pizza, it is either from a trusted place (ie Manifesto or The Big Blue Bus) or simply a fresh Tesco pizza, which I find surprisingly good.  

The thing is, I don't find any excuse in getting Dominos as Dublin has some very decent takeaway pizza available, namely Base and Tiger pizza, that are both quite tasty. And with the addition of the Dublin Pizza Company, it's like all our prayers for authentic pizzas have been answered.

We ordered four pizzas to share but we had to play a small trick. DPC only delivers until the end of Lower Rathmines Road and we live 100 metres down the limit. We tried to order to Copan, a bar close enough to our house, so we could go and get them there. The trick worked, and the pizzas were still hot when we opened the boxes.

We got the Bianca (West Cork mozzarella, scamorza, wild mushrooms, garlic, fresh oregano, rocket, olive oil), the DPC (tomato, West Cork mozzarella, Dingle whisky cured salami, fresh basil, olive oil), the Buffala (tomato, West Cork buffalo mozzarella, dry cured ham, Tipperary 3 year aged Coolea shavings, olive oil) and the Lucifero (West Cork mozzarella, n’duja, mature humming bark, grilled red onions, green serrano chilli, 18 month aged Coolea shavings, fresh basil, olive oil). It is great to see that the Irish are now taking advantage of their fantastic agriculture, starting with their amazing local cheese. The West Cork mozzarella had nothing to feel shameful for compared to her Italian counterpart. I love seeing all these young Irish food businesses being so proud of what their country can produce and make the most of what the land has to offer.

The crust was dense yet felt really light, while the rich tomato sauce left enough room to taste the delicious toppings, starting with some seriously amazing cheese. We just couldn't believe a small shed on Aungier Street was able to produce such a fabulous food experience, for 56 euros for 4 people including delivery.  None of the pizzas disappointed us and although we expected leftovers, everything was (sadly) gone after 10 minutes. 

Another interesting fact about these pizzas, they were extremely easy to digest and didn't make me feel bloated in any way. As much as I love Neapolitan pizza, it often leaves me with a sore stomach. I wouldn't be able to explain why these seemed so easy and light, but that is yet another reason to order them again (and again).
